Club Rules

Manchester Pickwick Club Rules

  1. The Club is called “THE MANCHESTER PICKWICK CLUB”, late “THE BROUGHTON PICKWICK CLUB”, founded 1906.
  2. The constitution of the Club be limited to 40 members excluding Life and Honorary Members.
  3. The annual subscription to be £10; meeting subscriptions to be £5.
  4. The Club to be managed by the Executive Committee. The Officers and Executive Committee to be elected at the Annual General Meeting.
  5. The Club shall meet on the third Wednesday of each month per syllabus. The Annual General Meeting shall be for members only. The meetings will commence at 8pm promptly and any member failing to be in his place by that time shall be fined.
  6. Each member shall have a name taken from the Pickwick Papers allocated to him and to which he must answer or be fined. Any member addressing a fellow member by any other than his Pickwickian name shall also be fined.
  7. Any member appearing at a meeting without his Club Badge or Club Tie will be fined. A tie must be worn.
  8. Each member of the Club is expected to do his best in entertaining when called upon to do so. Any member who declines shall be liable to a fine at the discretion of The Chairman.
  9. Initiations: friends of members wishing to join the Club should have their names submitted to The Secretary, in writing, by the member proposing their election. Such nominations, which must in each case be seconded by another member, will be considered by the Executive Committee. The initiation will take place at the Annual General Meeting or such other meeting deemed appropriate by the Executive Committee. On initiation, the new member will be required to purchase a Club Tie or Badge and will also be required to pay his annual subscription fee. He will be given a copy of the Club rules.
  10. Members subscriptions become due at the Annual General Meeting. The Treasurer will monitor the payment of subscriptions and also the intentions of those members who fail to pay.
  11. The Chairman’s decision must be considered final with respect to fines not covered by the rules.
  12. The Chairman will appoint a member to be responsible for the Fines Box at every meeting.

Not to converse on Club business with others outside.

My conduct shall always be actuated by principles of help, sociability and kindly feeling towards the members of this confraternity of hearty good fellows.
